リュウ (隆) とは『ストリートファイター』シリーズのメインキャラクターで「主人公」。リュウは各『ストリートファイター』シリーズに毎回登場している。ゲームだけでなくすべてのカプコンのクロスオーバーの格闘ゲームに登場している。リュウは格闘ゲームで「ストリートファイター」のような役で主演する格闘ゲームのジャンルでほぼ間違いなくもっとも有名なキャラクターである。しかし実際には彼が「ベーシック」なキャラクターであると見なされたのは、『ストリートファイターII』で本当によく知られるようになってからである。彼はMega Manとともにカプコンの非公式「マスコット」のひとつとみなされている。

Ken is Ryu's best friend from his childhood as the two warriors have trained together during their training under their Master Gouken, they will look out for each other whenever they are in danger and will help each other when then stumble upon a situation beyond their limations.
Sagat[]
Sagat is one of Ryu's most respected rivels as he was the of the few warriors to draw out the Satsui no Hado within Ryu as he was the one who gave him a scar on his body, at first, he belived that Ryu took away his honor as he defeated him during the first warrior tournment after he was willing to help Ryu off the ground when he was impressed by Ryu's fighting skills and power, eventually, he found out that Ryu was possessed by a dark power for short time and realised that Ryu was not himself for that moment, since then, Ryu and Sagat have become more of rivals that have respect for each other then one that is based on hatred.
Rose[]
Rose is a very close friend of Ryu who also opposes the Satsui no Hado like him, she often tries to help him regect this dark power and even tries to protect him from others who seek to use him for their own evil desires, such as Vega.
Ingrid[]
Ingrid is a girl from the future who has a very storng connection to Ryu, as she hates the Satsui no Hado and even knows more about Ryu then most people would such as his personal life and desires to become a master of his art, Ryu himself knows very littile about her as she keeps her origins about her and her being from the future a serect, but does that she is a good girl who can be trusted.
Sakura[]
Sakura is one of Ryu's fans that seeks to train with him, dispite Ryu seeing himself not a master, he will sometimes have a friendly match with her to see how far her skills have grown.
Gouki[]
Gouki is one of Ryu's most hated foes, as he was the one who tried to murder his master, and seeks to awaken the Satsui no Hado in Ryu in order to have the fight to the death that he desires.
Gill[]
Ryu views Gill to be no different then Vega dispite his views on wanting to save the world.
