Description[]
- "Lift an opponent above your head and toss them into the ground back-first. Throws your opponent without switching places with them."
- —Street Fighter 6
Executed by pressing Light Punch and Light Kick, (or the Light Attack and Medium Attack for Modern Control) near an opponent. After grabbing the opponent by the wrist, Zangief reaches between their opponent's legs with one arm and reaches around their back from the same side with his other arm. Zangief then scoops the opponent off of their ground and lifts them up on their shoulders. Finally, he holds his upside-downed opponent by the head and throws them to the ground, slamming them on their back.
If Light Punch and Light Kick are held during the throw, Zangief swings his lower body to the opposite direction so that his head is above and aligned with the grounded opponent's head. Zangief falls to the ground and drives his elbow into the opponent's sternum.
Tactics[]
Zangief is a grappler who specializes in throws and command grabs to break through the opponent's defense and inflict maximum damage. Mixing up his normal throws with his signature Screw Piledriver is crucial to his game plan. By utilizing the many throws he has in his arsenal, Zangief can keep his opponent on their heels and force them to make a mistake. While his command grabs inflict more damage, his normal throws has a faster recovery; making it useful when baiting out a jump.
Out of all of his regular throws, Bodyslam inflicts the least damage on its own. He also gets decent okizeme with this move. If used in a corner, Zangief can walk forward and put his opponent in a throw loop with proper timing. On the other hand, Zangief can sacrifice okizeme by performing the Elbow Drop follow-up. Doing so inflicts a little more damage to the move. However, the opponent immediately recovers from a distance away from Zangief. A good time to use this move is when the opponent is at minimal health. He can attempt to perform Bodyslam with the Elbow Drop to secure the round, yet still have enough recovery to counter should the opponent jump out of the way if they expect a command grab.
