Brutal Spike (スパイクブロー Supaiku Burō?, "Spike Blow") is one of Luke's unique attacks, introduced in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.

Description[]

Executed by pressing back and Medium Punch, Luke quickly jabs his opponent's chest with a hook punch.

Tactics[]

Brutal Spike has a 5-frame startup, making it Luke's fastest Medium attack. Because of its short range, Luke needs to be close to his opponent to connect with this move. However, Brutal Spike is one of his stronger command normals. Luke is +2 if the opponent blocks this attack. He can maintain pressure with another Brutal Spike, or he can microwalk forward and sneak in a throw while the opponent is on their heels.

Brutal Spike

While the attack itself inflcts minimal damage, Brutal Spike is good for beginning or extending combos. Because of its fast startup, it can be linked into a few of his normals, such as Crouching Medium Punch or Heavy Impact. On hit, Luke can cancel Brutal Spike into any of his special moves such as Sand Blaster, Rising Rocket, or a charged Flash Knuckle. It can also be cancelled into his Critical Art. Additionally, Luke can cancel into his V-Trigger for significant frame advantage; on hit or on block. When used correctly, Brutal Spike can lead to a variety of combos for optimal damage and pressure.

Trivia[]

  • Strangely, the name Brutal Spike would later be given to the move formerly known as Heavy Impact in Street Fighter 6, with the original Brutal Spike missing from the moveset entirely.
