Cartwheel

Cartwheel is Poison's second V-Skill in Street Fighter V.

Input
Street Fighter V Arcade-Button-MPunch+Arcade-Button-MKick(Punch hold to attack)

Description[]

Executed by pressing Medium Punch and Medium Kick simultaneously, Poison does a cartwheel toward her opponent. By holding Medium Punch and Medium Kick, Poison performs a back flip, kicking her opponent twice to launch them in the air.

Tactics[]

CartwheelAttack

Cartwheel can be cancelled from every normal in Poison's arsenal, including Crouching Heavy Punch and Standing Heavy Kick. She can also cancel her second V-Skill from EX Shocking Heel. While the cartwheel itself doesn't build V-Meter, the follow-up kick grants Poison a decent amount on hit and on block. If she hits her opponent with her second V-Skill, it launches them in the air. Poison can follow-up with any version of Avant Line or EX Heavy Heart Raid.

Even though the damage output for the follow-up attack is minimal, Poison is -8 on block. However, it has enough pushback to make it difficult for her opponent to punish. She can only cancel into her special moves or Critical Art if the kick follow-up hits the opponent. Unfortunately, her second V-Skill cannot slip past fireballs like her first V-Skill can.

If Poison is close enough, she cartwheels to the other side of her opponent. If she has them on their heels, she can sneak behind them and hit her opponent with the kick follow-up while they are blocking in the wrong direction. Additionally, the side-switch can put her opponent in a mix-up situation. If Poison scores a hard knockdown with her first V-Trigger, she can toss the cocktail at her opponent and perform her second V-Skill as they are recovering. As she switches sides with the cocktail coming down on top of them, the opponent has to guess which side to block.

Poison's first V-Skill gives her a way to navigate past fireballs. The combos she gets from Perfume Swing has a lot of corner carry. In addition, she can potentially get a cross-up situation if properly spaced and timed. However, Poison's second V-Skill gives her more damaging combos and a mix-up situation that can be difficult for her opponent to guess in. She also gets more okizeme with the cartwheel, instead of cancelling into the follow-up attack.

Trivia[]

  • This attack's use, function, and mix-up capabilities highly resemble how Ling Xiaoyu's Cyclone Left attack was buffed in the 2013 edition of Street Fighter X Tekken.
  • The follow-up attack is likely based on the back flip attack used by Poison (and Roxy) in Final Fight.
