The Criminal Upper (クリミナルアッパー Kuriminaru Appaa?) is one of Cody's special attacks, introduced along with him in Street Fighter Alpha 3.

All appearances Arcade Stick QCB + Arcade Button Punch

Description Edit

Cody throws a Criminal Upper in Super Street Fighter IV.

Executed by performing a quarter-circle backward motion and pressing punch, Cody turns quickly and throws an uppercut ("Take that!") which creates a white tornado that can land up to 8 hits.

The startup time, execution interval between uppercut and tornado and total damage dealt are determined by the punch button pressed, with heavier punches meaning more startup time and bigger execution interval but greater damage as well.

The EX Special version introduced in Super Street Fighter IV comes out faster, has lesser execution interval and does more damage.

In Street Fighter V, an upgraded version appears as Cody's Critical Art, called Criminal Punisher. Executed by performing two quarter-circle forward motions and pressing punch, Cody creates a larger tornado that extends to the top of the screen, hitting the opponent up to eight times. Criminal Punisher originally first appeared in Final Fight: Streetwise, demonstrated by Cody when he was Father Bella’s newest Horseman of Death.

The tornado can negate projectiles, and is good for use in juggling combos, particularly when the foe is cornered.
