Thrasher Damnd, referred to simply as Damnd (ダムド Damudo?) in most appearances, is a character from the Final Fight series. He is a member of the Mad Gear Gang and the boss of the first stage of Final Fight, Metro City's Slum Area. In Street Fighter 6, he appears in the game's World Tour mode, serving as the leader of the Mad Gear Gang.

Biography[]

Name[]

Damnd was known as Thrasher in the western console ports of the original Final Fight arcade game due to the censorship of his original name. In Street Fighter 6, "Thrasher" is made a part of his name, and he is fully referred to as Thrasher Damnd, though the usage of this is largely exclusive to the English release of the game.

Appearance[]

Damnd is an agile Caribbean man with a dark complexion, blond dreadlocks each ending in a number of beads, is almost as huge as the Andore Family, and is always seen manically grinning or laughing. He wears a white waistcoat (gold due to color limitations), white and blue shutter sunglasses, faux fur-lined turned-down boots, and various jewelry.

In Street Fighter 6, his appearance had some minor changes, looking a bit more aged than in his last appearance, wearing a full beard. Has a tiger print tank top with a leather black vest in the style of a motorcycle club (having Mad Gear Gang MC Metro City patch at the back and another patch acting as the President of the MC on the chest), new blue framed sunglasses, and yellow fingerless gloves.

Story[]

Final Fight[]

Damnd was a top lieutenant in Belger's Mad Gear Gang, and was in control of the gang's information network, including having intel from the local police and the FBI.[1] When Mayor Haggar refused to accept kickbacks and let the gang do as it pleased like the last mayor did before him, Damnd had kidnapped the current mayor's daughter Jessica and phoned him, telling him to turn on the TV. When Haggar did so, he saw that Damnd was on air, laughing maniacally as he broadcasted images of the kidnapped Jessica and telling Haggar to be reasonable. Haggar refused their ultimatum and he went with Cody and Guy to the slums of Metro City to rescue her.

Soon Cody found Damnd with Jessica in the Slum Area. Damnd retreated while his cronies held Cody and Guy at bay, and though Cody soon caught up to him, Damnd had by then successfully passed Jessica on to accomplices, and she was nowhere to be found. Despite initially getting the jump on Cody, the street fighter beat him senseless to get information on Jessica's whereabouts.

Street Fighter 6[]

Damnd appears in World Tour mode as a recurring antagonist and ally of circumstance. His faction of the Mad Gear gang are in conflict with Bosch regarding the unknown contents of a bag. Damnd uses his leverage over the Avatar and later kidnaps Li-Fen to force them to performing minor tasks. Circumstances later forces he and the Avatar to work together to infiltrate a tournament in Old Nayshall.

Damnd seems to hold begrudging, but genuine respect for the Avatar, considering them his ideal subordinate for restoring the Mad Gear gang to its former glory. He will do anything to get them to join his side, willingly or not.

Animation[]

Damnd appears in the Street Fighter cartoon episode Final Fight, where he assists Rolento to kidnap Jessica. He later attacks a train, where a disguised Ryu and Ken defeat him to join the Mad Gear gang.

Comics[]

In Super Street Fighter #1, Damnd, J, and Mic eat in the Chinese restaurant owned by Yun and Yang. Damnd refuses to pay the bill, saying that asking him to pay is an offense and menacingly ordering another free meal to calm him down, resulting in him being beaten by the twins.

Fighting style[]

Despite his size, strength and agility, Damnd is a cowardly fighter who often retreats to a perch on a wall and signals for reinforcements by finger whistling. When his back-up is proved insufficient, he leaps from his perch and attempts to foot-land on his opponent. Damnd will also occasionally take a moment to crackle at either Guy, Cody, or Haggar which gives the player(s) a small opening to quickly counterattack. Aside from this, Damnd's fighting style is that of the typical Mad Gear punk, which is unique and effective enough to match up against any street fighter.

In Street Fighter 6, Damnd uses a variety of techniques in World Tour mode. These include I Fall (アイフォール Ai Fōru?), a move based on his kick attack from Final Fight, Politics (ポリティックス Poritikkusu?), in which he whistles for an assist from one of his henchmen, and One Way Love (ワン・ウェイ・ラヴ Wan Wei Rabu?), in which he whistles for one of his henchman to activate the crane at Abigail's Scrap Yard in order to drop several barrels on the player.

Trivia[]

  • Like Charlie Nash, his full name combines between Japanese and English names as of current mainline continuity since Street Fighter IV. However, unlike Nash, his Japanese name used to have censorship issue in Western releases, and usage of the name is largely restricted to the English version of the game.
  • Damnd is named after the English rock band The Damned, keeping with the musical naming theme of Mad Gear members. This is reinforced in Street Fighter 6, as his special moves are all named after songs by the band.
