"Grab your opponent and throw them forward over your shoulder. Throws your opponent without switching places with them."
Street Fighter 6

Before Street Fighter IV, this throw can be performed by pressing forward or back and pressing either Medium Punch or Heavy Punch while near the opponent. Afterwards, the input for this move is changed to pressing Light Punch and Light Kick near an opponent. M. Bison grabs the opponent by the throat, lifts them over his head, and throws them violently head-first onto the ground.

In Street Fighter 6, the animation of this move is changed. First M. Bison grabs the opponent by the wrist and pulls them toward him to get them off-balanced. As he lunges toward the opponent, he uses his front forearm to shove the opponent's arm back before grabbing a hold of their wrist with the same hand. Finally, M. Bison steps forward and across the opponent with his other foot and bends forward to throw the opponent over his shoulder, causing them to land on their back.

Development

During the creation of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Akira Nishitani originally planned for M. Bison to perform a throw by having him catch his opponent's punch or kick, then before throwing them, he boasts an insult:

Sono teido ka?

(その程度か?, literally. "Is that all you got?")

Nishitani really wanted that throw move to be in the final game. But it proved too difficult to actually show all that in-game, so the developers abandoned the idea, until Street Fighter II': Champion Edition simply just gave M. Bison a quick choke throw instead, this became his standard throw ever since.

The original throw later made its way into two other bosses in different fighting games:

Deadly Throw SF6

Deadly Throw in Street Fighter 6 is critical to M. Bison's arsenal. He can immediately perform a Drive Rush to reapply pressure as his opponent is recovering. Despite inflicting minimal damage, M. Bison can utilize throws to break the opponent's defenses; especially during okizeme. By mixing up strong normals with his throws, M. Bison can keep his opponent guessing and score free damage while continuously pushing them closer to the corner. This move becomes more efficient when M. Bison has planted a Psycho Mine inside the opponent after hitting them with Backfist Combo. The opponent is either forced to retaliate and hit M. Bison to defuse the Psycho Mine, or stay on the defense and block during the detonation; which allows M. Bison to continue offensive pressure and sneak in a throw as the opponent is on their heels.

Trivia

  • Deadly Throw was one of the few entirely new animations created in Street Fighter II': Champion Edition, as M. Bison did not have any throws in Street Fighter II: The World Warrior.
