- "A lariat performed by extending both arms and spinning. Invulnerable to projectiles during the duration of the spin."
- —Street Fighter 6
The Double Lariat (ダブルラリアット Daburu Rariatto?), also informally known as the Spinning Clothesline, is one of Zangief's special attacks, introduced along with him in Street Fighter II.
The Double Lariat is based off a move originally used by Mike Haggar in the Final Fight series, and after witnessing Haggar use it in a fight, Zangief added the move to his repertoire. [citation needed]

Description[]
Executed by pressing all three punch or kick buttons, Zangief stretches his arms out horizontally, clenches his fists, and spins on an axis in an effort to hit the opponent. An alternate "quick" version can also be executed by pressing all three kick buttons. In Street Fighter 6, the input for this move is pressing two punches instead of three (or pressing down and Special Attack for Modern Control.) Pressing all three punch buttons has Zangief perform the OD version where it hits the opponent twice.
Tactics[]
The attack greatly reduces the size of Zangief's hitbox while in motion, and Zangief cannot be knocked out of it with most attacks based on which buttons he uses: when performed with the punch buttons, Zangief spins slower but for a longer time, and is invulnerable above his waist, thus allowing most projectiles to pass him with ease and granting better chances of hitting standing or airborne opponents. However, when performed with the kick buttons, Zangief spins faster but for a shorter time. He is also invulnerable below his waist, thus allowing him to dodge projectiles and other attacks which do not travel above midsection-height.
Trivia[]
- The term "Double Lariat" is actually a misnomer due to the fact that a lariat involves running towards an opponent, wrapping an arm around their upper chest and forcing them to the ground. A more accurate term for this move would be a clothesline, as the attack involves striking an opponent with an extended arm and knocking them down, hence the original/informal name "Spinning Clothesline" being correct.
- The Double Lariat is used as an attack used by four different enemies (Gorilla Mask, Dr. Ion, Wrestlers, and the Bouncer) in God Hand.
- In The Simpson's Arcade Game made by game developer Konami one variation of the fat thug enemies is capable of an attack similar to Double Lariat (spinning much faster than Zangief). The other variation shakes the player until they escape or run out of health but is incapable of the maneuver.
- In Project X Zone, Frank West from the Dead Rising series uses a Double Lariat in two of his special moves, as in his said home series Frank is able to naturally learn a Double Lariat technique in that vein.
