The second kick as seen in Super Street Fighter IV

Dread Kick

The initial kick as seen in Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival.

Executed by charging backward then pressing forward and kick, Dee Jay hops forward with one foot while delivering a roundhouse kick with the other, then landing with that foot while delivering a backward-facing kick with the first.

The distance travelled, damage dealt and speed of the attack are determined by the kick button pressed: light kick version will only hop a short distance and launch only the initial roundhouse; medium and heavy kick versions will perform both kicks, with the latter covering a slightly longer distance between the blows.

The EX Special version introduced in Super Street Fighter IV passes through projectiles, travels the furthest, deals the most damage and moves the quickest.

In Ultra Street Fighter IV's OMEGA Mode, as Dee Jay is a command input character in this mode, this attack is now executed by performing a quarter-circle forward motion and pressing kick. The attack knocks down in this mode, just like in previous games. The EX version became a more powerful variant called Maximum Hurricane, which requires two stocks of the Super Combo Gauge to perform, hits 7 times, and does more damage.

In Street Fighter 6, the strength of the kick button pressed determines the attack that Dee Jay performs. The Arcade-Button-LKick version is a feint (known as the Roll Through Feint (フェイントロールステップ Feinto Rōru Suteppu?, "Feint Roll Step")). The Arcade-Button-MKick version is the single kick (known as the Quick Rolling Sobat (クイックローリングソバット Kuikku Rōringu Sobatto?)), and the Arcade-Button-HKick version is a double kick. The Overdrive version is a jumping version of the Heavy Double Rolling Sobat.

Origin[]

The move is named for the "rolling sobat", a Japanese professional wrestling term which generally refers to a backwards kick. This move partially shares its name with one of Guile's unique attacks, the Rolling Sobat.

Tactics[]

"Unleash a fierce spinning kick while moving forward. When used to check an opponent while vying for position, it is most effective when the tip of the foot connects with the opponent."
—Description for Quick Rolling Sobat, Street Fighter 6

This technique is best used for rapid approach and finish combos safely.

"Spin forward while feinting a kicking attack. Useful for confusing opponents at close range."
—Description for Roll Through Feint, Street Fighter 6

With Double Rolling Sobat becoming a regular command input instead of a charge - on top of having a feint version in Street Fighter 6, mind games become a very viable strategy for this game's version of Dee Jay, getting close to opponents and tricking them into whiffing moves that can cost them the match.

The Medium Rolling Sobat is a single kick that knocks down, while the Heavy version is a proper Double Rolling Sobat that keeps the opponent standing while Dee Jay is +2, letting him continue his pressure. If Double Rolling Sobat hits as either a Counterhit or a Punish Counter, the advantage is maintained to the second hit, letting Dee Jay combo afterwards.

OD Rolling Sobat is safe on block and knocks down, while also hopping over low attacks.
