Dr. Woo (ドクター呉 Dokutā Wū?), previously mistranslated as Dr. Kure, is a non-playable character who appears in Twelve's Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike ending and Urien's Street Fighter V character story.
Story
Dr. Woo was a famous scholar and scientist before being abducted by the Secret Society. From there, he developed various biological weapons based on Urien's theories about the remodeling of the human body, which resulted in the creation of Eleven and Twelve plus the surgery of Necro's body. Despite being their captive, he enjoys the work given to him. He also claims to have an IQ over 1300.[1]
Trivia
- Dr. Woo's name was originally translated as "Dr. Kure" in Street Fighter III, presumably due to the fact that the kanji (呉) in his name is read as "kure" in Japanese. "Wu" is the Chinese pronunciation of the kanji, and is written the same in Japanese due to it being the doctor's name. The misreading was later corrected in his appearance in Street Fighter V, as well as on the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute in the doctor's profile, where the pronunciation is specifically noted in the Japanese website.
