El Stingray, known as El Stinger (エル・スティンガー Eru Sutingā?) in Japan, is a character from the Slam Masters series of wrestling games.
Story
Background
Trained by Meteorito Jr., El Stingray is a high-flying and charismatic CWA masked luchador (Spanish for "wrestler") whose speed is unparalleled. He's proud of his midair assault techniques and feels the most alive while performing aerial attacks before an audience. El Stingray is involved in an almost constant rivalry with The Great Oni, who uses a similar flashy wrestling style.
Concept
El Stingray's technico ("good guy") background and mask are believed to be inspired by the late Mexican luchador Blue Demon. His moveset is very similar to that of Volador ("Flyer" in Spanish), a Mexican luchador famous for his impressive aerial attacks. El Stingray's ring name is likely an homage to the retired and popular WCW, TNA, WWE, and AEW wrestling star Sting. That said, El Stingray's design seems to take the most inspiration from the late Mexican luchador Lizmark as their physical characteristics closely match, as well as the design and colors of El Stingray's tights.

Trivia
- El Stingray could have served as the basis for El Fuerte from Street Fighter IV.
- Additionally, according to the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute, El Fuerte was brought up in the ways of Lucha Libre by El Stingray's teacher, Meteorito Jr.[2]
- Due to space constraints in some points of the game such as the select screen, his name is shortened to "Stingr".
