"Fight!"
—Game Announcer

The Game Announcer, also known as the Ring Announcer (リングアナウンサー Ringu Anaunsā?) and Narrator, is a voice that provides all of the game's commentary, and has been a main feature throughout the Street Fighter series.

Description[]

The announcer is a disembodied voice. Its exact tone often varies with (and sometimes within) the game and/or series. For example, in Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, the voice is that of a young white female, while in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, the voice is closer to that of an adult black male.

The Game Announcer signals the start and end of a match, among other things. The announcer is also known as the referee of the match.

Trivia[]

  • Abigail is the only character who interacts with the Announcer, seemingly correcting the announcer on how to pronounce "Abigail", thus breaking the fourth wall in-game.
  • It is possible that win and lose quotes from the original Street Fighter are actually narrated by the announcer of the game rather than spoken by the individual characters, as all of them have the same voice speaking.
  • In a case of voice disparity, In Super Street Fighter II Turbo, the announcer's number counting voice clip was used in Balrog's turn punch, instead of Balrog's own voice; This would be addressed in Street Fighter Alpha 3, following his game appearance.
  • Jeff Manning, the announcer of the crossover game Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All Stars, is also the announcer for the original Super Smash Bros on the Nintendo 64.
