Soul Bind

Soul Bind is one of Rose's special attacks, introduced in Street Fighter V.

Description

Rose zapping Cammy with Soul Power using Soul Bind.

Executed by performing a Shoryuken motion and pressing punch, Rose throws her scarf's end up to grab the opponent. If caught by the scarf, Rose sends a massive surge of Soul Power through the scarf, shocking her opponent. The strength of the punch button pressed determines the angle of the attack, as well as the color of Rose's scarf. The Light version (indicated by purple) has Rose hurling her scarf almost directly above herself. The Medium version (indicated by blue) is slightly in front. The Heavy version (indicated by green) has Rose throwing her scarf at a 45° upward angle. With the EX version (indicated by yellow) Rose shocks her opponent with her scarf. As they are released and tumble to the ground, Rose spins and fires another orb of Soul Power at her opponent, causing them to bounce off of the wall.

This move is similar to Menat's Guardian of the Sun.

Tactics

This is one of Rose's anti-air tools in Street Fighter V. If she gets a read and catches the opponent jumping with this move, it forces them to reconsider jumping in on Rose, keeping the fight on the ground. During the startup and active frames, Rose is invincible to midair attacks. Soul Bind inflicts more damage and stun than her other special moves. However, this attack won't connect if the opponent is on the ground.

Using the correct version can determine whether Rose catches her opponent in the air or if she's left vulnerable. The Light version is best used to counter cross-up attempts. On the other hand, the Heavy version has the best range and can potentially catch a neutral jump with proper spacing, timing, and anticipation. The EX version has the same range as the Medium version. However, EX Soul Bind bounces the opponent off of the wall, allowing her to follow up with another special move such as Soul Spiral for extra damage.

• This move replaces Rose's old staple move, Soul Throw.
  • However, this move can be seen in her Critical Art.
• Soul Bind's EX animation where she performs a powerful palm blast is an homage to Psycho Impact, referencing Rose and M. Bison sharing the same soul.
