Description[]

Tenrai

Executed by pressing Medium Punch and Medium Kick simultaneously, Ibuki charges her hands with blue energy then shoots the energy into her opponent through her palm. By holding down the buttons, Ibuki charges the move for a split second, before releasing a longer wave of blue energy.

Tactics[]

Ibuki Tenrai

Tenrai in action.

This move shares similar properties to Karin's V-Skill. The charged and the uncharged version of this move each lead to a knockdown. It also grants V-Gauge to Ibuki, whether it hits or gets blocked. It is an excellent poke for Ibuki to use in the neutral game. The uncharged version comes out faster, but is unsafe on block at -5. The charged version is much safer on block at -2. While the startup is much slower, it does more damage and has a longer range.

In some cases, the Tenrai can be used to end combos as a way to reset the neutral game or to build V-Gauge to acquire Ibuki's V-Trigger. While it may be risky, this move can also be used to nullify single-hitting projectiles, if timed just properly. The Tenrai can be cancelled into Ibuki's second V-Trigger, allowing her to juggle her opponent and create tricky mix-up situation.

Compared to Makibishi Tenrai gives Ibuki a much more immediately usable attack with longer range than her normal attacks at the expense of the massive Reset and field control potential her other V-Skill provides. Tenrai could be canceled into either of her V-Triggers and works especially well with Fuma Shuriken and that attack's own reset setups, especially in the corner. Players should consider who they are battling before deciding which V-Skill would provide more overall benefit to them.

Trivia[]

  • In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, one of Samus Aran's custom neutral B specials has her charge shot look similar to Tenrai.
  • The circular effect around Ibuki's hand when the Ki comes out and is fully charged also looks visually similar (albeit different colored) to the two circular effects around the rings arrows come out when a Bowmaster from Maplestory uses their Hurricane skill.
