(During forward jump)

Description[]

Executed by pressing down and Heavy Punch during a forward jump, Alex performs a diving cross chop. Upon reaching the ground, Alex performs a forward recovery roll.

Tactics[]

FlyingCrossChop

In order for the move to come out, it must be performed at or after the peak of the forward jump (much like Necalli's dive kick). That being said, it is very unsafe on block. To make it safe, it's best to cancel the Flying Cross Chop into one of Alex's safer normals or throw. However, for any cancel to work, Alex must hit his opponent with this move. As with Alex's other aerial trajectory moves, whiffing it can be dangerous. It can be used to get out of the corner if his opponent is pressuring him.

In Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, this move is instead allocated as Alex's standard jumping Heavy attack, though unlike most jumping Heavies, it does not inflict the aerial rave/air combo-finishing plummet on any airborne hit (opting to just knock away with the foe able to automatically recover on their feet). However, it also inflicts stagger on a grounded hit, allowing him to easily combo off of it should it properly connect (especially when covered by an assist). Because it still hits overhead, combined with no minimum height restriction, it gives Alex a strong mixup game in tandem with his standing Medium (Chop) and standing Heavy also being overheads.

Furthermore in TvC, it can be both chain-cancelled into or even whiff/kara (empty)-cancelled into his midair Power Bomb any point in its animation. And for pressure and safe-tagging, it can even be cancelled into the Variable/Crossover Air Raid on a grounded foe should Alex have any meter and his Partner's assist active (but done too close to the ground will make Alex hit the ground rolling too soon to cancel into anything). While this can be done by other characters, Alex's VAR starter (due to using his Air Knee Smash animation) is one of the few that comes out much sooner than others', though the stagger inflicted may cause the foe to be juggled a bit too high (as hitting a foe during stagger causes juggle state). This issue is fixed in Ultimate All-Stars due to the VAR starter cancelling out the stagger's properties.

Alex's VAR cancel from his j.H version of Flying Cross Chop however, is also far more notable due to to being able to perform a Variable Air Raid Boost Glitch by performing an air dash, going straight into j.H off of it, then cancelling that into a VAR which makes him fall in the direction of whatever air dash he did (if he air dashed backwards, then his VAR starter will alter his momentum backward). This allows him to fake out and bait with the Flying Cross Chop during especially a super jump. This glitch can be performed in both Cross Generations of Heroes and Ultimate All-Stars.
