Fuma Shuriken

Fuma Shuriken (風魔手裏剣, Fūma Shuriken) is Ibuki's second V-Trigger in Street Fighter V.

Description

Executed by pressing Heavy Punch and Heavy Kick simultaneously, Ibuki throws a large, four-bladed shuriken at her opponent that circles back to hit them again.

Tactics

Since its release, Fuma Shuriken has become the V-Trigger most players use. It is one of Ibuki's primary mix-up tools she can use to help her mount a comeback or to put her opponent in precarious situations. However, she only gets to throw the shuriken once. Unlike her first V-Trigger, this one has no timer. After the shuriken is thrown, Ibuki has to rebuild on her V-Gauge to obtain her V-Trigger a second time. Fortunately, Fuma Shuriken is a 2-bar V-Trigger, which means it's possible to use her it more than once in a single round.

The shruiken's flight path and return is determined depending on the direction pressed during the activation. If only Heavy Punch and Heavy Kick are pressed without a direction, the shuriken is thrown straight at the opponent, before returning from above. By pressing back, with Heavy Punch and Heavy Kick together, Ibuki throws the shuriken upward, causing it to return straight behind her opponent.

The projectile comes out pretty fast. It can also combo from any of Ibuki's normals or even Kunai. She takes a step forward as she throws the shuriken, which helps her remain close to her opponent. It's +8 on hit, making this V-Trigger a solid combo extender. Ibuki can link a combo, which in turn juggles her opponent into the shuriken. From there, Ibuki can reset her opponent by hitting them with Agemen. As they land on the ground, Ibuki puts her opponent in a left-right mix-up situation, forcing them to guess which side she's on.

As of season 4 of SFV this attack has been made -2 on a point blank activation. While this is generally not punishable, Ibuki "loses her turn" in offense, this is especially dangerous against Zangief when he has a super bar.

Pressing back while activating V-Trigger lets Ibuki throw her shuriken upward. This serves as a decent anti-air tool. In addition, Ibuki can cancel into EX Raida to juggle her opponent into the returning projectile, allowing her to extend the combo to inflict more damage.

Trivia

• The release of this V-Trigger might have been foreshadowed through Laura's win quote against Ibuki; she asks Ibuki about her shuriken despite her having access to no such weapons as early as when Ibuki was first released. In addition, Ibuki's win quote against Lucia has her correcting the officer that she is using Kunai, stating that "You can't cut a sandwich with a shuriken".
• Realistically the way Ibuki throws the Shuriken is quite dangerous (and impractical) as her fingers are seen above the blades when she holds the shuriken, there is a danger of said fingers being cut off when the Shuriken starts spinning. This is likely due to an animation error.
• Ibuki uses one hand to throw her V-Trigger 1 and two hands to throw her V-Trigger 2 weapons.
