Description[]

Gladius

Executed by performing a quarter-circle forward motion and pressing punch (or pressing Special Attack for Modern control), Marisa rears her back arm for a straight punch, knocking the opponent back. Marisa's fist is also surrounded by energy, forming a gladius sword while attacking. If the punch button is held, Marisa then stuns her opponent on impact. Afterwards Marisa rears the same arm back and delivers another devastating punch straight to the opponent's face, sending them sliding on the ground across the stage. the opponent to the back end of the screen.

Tactics[]

This move is Marisa's primary special attack to end combos. It can be cancelled from most of her normals or target combos. It leaves her -5 on block. If properly spaced, it can be difficult for the opponent to punish. She can cancel OD Gladius into her Level 2 Super Art or any regular version into her Critical Art.

The strength of the punch button pressed determines the move's startup, range, and damage output. The Light version has the fastest startup, but has the shortest range and inflicts the least amount of damage. The Medium version travels further and inflicts more damage, despite being 2 frames slower than the Light version. Heavy Gladius has a 22-frame startup. However, it travels almost 1/4 of the screen and deals the most damage. The OD version has the same startup as the Medium version, but inflicts more damage than the Heavy version. It also breaks armor upon impact.

Marisa can also charge up this attack by holding the punch button. While this extends the move's startup, she gains 1-hit of armor on her upper body, allowing her to bulldoze through her opponent's counter attack. Sometimes, Marisa may trade attacks with the opponent with the charged Gladius. Even though this negates the hit-throw animation of the attack, it leaves the opponent in a crumpled stun, setting Marisa up to perform a high-damaging combo.

Trivia[]

  • The gladii (s. gladius) are a family of various and different short swords used over the centuries by the Roman militias.
