The duel with Sagat was in response to Go Hibiki beating up a Shadaloo goon sent to the Hibiki Go Dojo to collect a 10,000 Hong Kong Dollar bribery fee for Shadaloo. According to the goon the Hibiki Go Dojo was in Shadaloo Country and this required payment. Go Hibiki refused to pay the bribe and defeated the goon convincingly in a fight.

Go does appear in [[Pocket Fighter]] as a cameo in several of Dan's attacks. His appearance is similar to Dan's, however he has a green karategi, red skin, a halo (because he is a ghost) and a very long nose (a parody of Art of Fighting character Mr. Karate, who wears a Tengu Mask, and it's the father of Ryo Sakazaki, of whom Dan is a parody). Attacks involving Go include Dan swinging him like a hammer, using his nose as the handle as well as Go launching a freezing energy beam from his nose and even Go using Shun Goku Satsu like [[Akuma]] (with the ideogram "Father" appearing on his back).

Many believe Go Hibiki was a more serious fighter than his son Dan. This is evidenced by his dealings with Shadaloo goons who try to intimidate the Hibiki Go Dojo. Sagat's loss of an eye and subsequent eyepatch will forever serve as a permanent reminder that neither Go Hibiki or Dan Hibiki should be underestimated!

Gou Hibiki from Udon comics.

Go Hibiki (ゴウ・火引 Hibiki Go)[citation needed] is Dan Hibiki's father.[1][2][3] He is the one who took out Sagat's eye in a brutal duel and in response, an enraged Sagat beat him to death.

Appearances

Go never appeared in any of the main series' games, as he died pre-Street Fighter. He is, however, frequently mentioned in games featuring Dan. In Street Fighter IV, Dan has a picture of Go hanging on the wall in his dojo, but the face is obscured by a glare of sunlight on the glass. Fans have, however, included their own versions of Gou in MUGEN, a customizable fighting game for the PC in which players can insert fighter characters of their own design.

Go appears in Pocket Fighter in several of Dan's attacks. His appearance is similar to Dan's; however he has a green karate gi, red skin, a halo (because he is a ghost) and a very long nose. (This is a parody of Art of Fighting character Mr. Karate, who wears a Tengu Mask. Mr. Karate is the father of Ryo Sakazaki, of whom Dan is a parody). Attacks involving Go include Dan swinging him like a hammer, using his nose as the handle; Go launching a freezing energy beam from his nose; and even Go using Shun Goku Satsu like Akuma (with the ideogram "Father" appearing on his back instead).

He also appears in Street Figher Legends by Udon Comics, although he uses a karate style with visual similarities to Dan.[citation needed] In the comics, Go appears completely normal, without the long nose or red skin, looking more like an elderly and more competent version of Dan.[4] In the comics, it is also revealed that he was killed defending his dojo from Sagat and his henchmen. A Shadaloo goon was sent to the Hibiki Go Dojo to collect a 10,000 Hong Kong Dollar bribery fee for Shadaloo. According to the goon, the Hibiki Go Dojo was in Shadaloo Country and this required payment. Go Hibiki refused to pay the bribe and defeated the goon convincingly in a fight. Sagat came to avenge his defeated comrade, and dueled Go; during the fight, Go takes out Sagat's eye, and Sagat subsequently beat him to death.

In Super Street Fighter IV, Go's Tengu Mask and green gi are worn in Dan's 3rd alternate costume set, albeit with the mask off to the side of his head rather than over his face.

Trivia

  • Go Hibiki is possibly a parody as well, (much like Dan) of the King of Fighters character, Mr. Karate
  • The name of Go Hibiki's dojo which he opens with a young Dan is the 'Hibiki Go Dojo'. Although the move Go Hibiki used to take Sagat's eye looks remarkably similar to a Dankukyaku, the dojo's name and introduction in the comic of 'Hibiki Dojo' indicate the Saikyo-style of karate was not born yet - or, at least, acknowledged in any official capacity.
