The Gutsy Counter (根性カウンター Konjou Kauntaa?, Guts Counter) is Akira's V-Reversal, introduced in Street Fighter V.

Description[]
Executed by pressing forward and all three punches after blocking an attack, Akira first sweeps one of her opponent's legs off the ground with her hand. She swings their leg around until she has a firm grip on it. Akira then drives an elbow into her opponent's midsection to knock them back.
Tactics[]
Like most V-Reversals, the purpose is to stop opponent's pressure or to get out of tough situations. While Akira has an invincible reversal with EX Hotenshu, it can leave her vulnerable if blocked. The Gutsy Counter is a solid, yet safe escape option. If the opponent is constantly pressuring, Akira can use this move to create separation and reset the neutral game. During the startup frames of this attack, she is invincible to attacks and throws. However, she can still be thrown while performing her V-Reversal.

Trivia[]
- Gutsy Counter pays homage to the Tardy Counter, a staple mechanic of the Rival Schools series in which any move could be performed while blocking by pressing forward followed by an attack, visualized by glass shattering. The leg grab is a modified version of Akira's Houbu, ending with a shoulder as opposed to a launcher.
- Street Fighter V uses the original Japanese name of the mechanic as opposed to the localized variant.
