Description[]

"Concentrate ki in the palm and unleash it directly forward. Useful as a follow-up after blocks and combos."
Street Fighter 6
RyuVReversal

Executed by charging backward, then pressing forward and all three punches after blocking an attack, Ryu unleashes a Hadoken-like palm attack, where the fireball doesn't leave the hands. The attack knocks the opponent back, giving Ryu space. As a special move in Street Fighter 6, the move is done with quarter-circle-back and any punch button.

Tactics[]

Like most V-Reversals, the purpose is to stop opponent's pressure or to get out of tough situations. Ryu's Hashogeki is a solid escape option. If the opponent is constantly pressuring, Ryu can use this move to create space and reset the neutral game.

As a Special Attack, the Jab, Strong, and EX versions leave the opponent standing while the Fierce version knocks the opponent down. When powered via Denjin Renki, it induces a spin state on the opponent. Hashogeki works similar to a Hadoken, trading range for a better advantage on hit and block along with faster startup. It also serves as a much safer alternative to the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku during light confirms as a result.

The Light version is fast and safe on block at -3, making it a reliable ender to most blockstrings. The Heavy version, while very slow and difficult to combo into without Punish Counter properties, is a fantastic close-range pressure tool that is both plus on block and launches the opponent for a juggle combo afterwards. The launch is high enough for Ryu to use a raw Drive Rush to convert afterwards. The OD version is +3 on block and leads to a combo afterward on counter hit, while having similar startup to the Medium version. The Light and Medium versions both launch the opponent for a juggle on either Counter or Punish Counter, making them highly rewarding as potential frametraps.

When powered up by Denjin Charge, Hashogeki launches the opponent similar to the Heavy version while also being fast enough to combo from Ryu's Medium Punch. The OD Denjin Hashogeki crumples opponent, further increasing potential combo routes.

Trivia[]

  • The move is similar to Sakura's Hadosho, which first appeared in Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000.
  • Hashogeki was initially planned to be a special move according to internal files from the Street Fighter V beta. It would later return to that status in Street Fighter 6.
  • Interestingly enough, the SF6 iteration of the move functions very similarly to the short-ranged Ko'ou Ken from The King of Fighters series, working as a shorter-ranged alternative to the standard full-screen projectile.
