Not to be confused with a Taunt where a player purposely activates a character specific action.

An Idle pose is an aesthetic feature in Street Fighter games.

Description

Ibuki Idle Pose

Cammy & Ibuki doing their idle poses in Street Fighter V.

Idle poses are not activated by players, but rather when a character isn't moved for a while. Idle poses are not exclusive to Street Fighter games, as other characters have had idle poses in other games such as Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, looking at the player angrily if the player hasn't done any Inputs. In Street Fighter, Idle poses generally reflect the performer's personality: Cammy transitioning to a different stance as she prepares for battle, Ibuki playfully showing her Kunai skills, Birdie flicking a booger at his opponent, or Karin taking a graceful bow.

Tactics

Some idle poses have secondary effects. Ibuki's actually refills one kunai in her thigh kunai holder. Birdie's idle pose actually hits the opponent. Even G's idle animation can inflict significant amount of damage. However, despite the side benefits, idle poses are not generally effective in battles, as they require the user to stand still unable to block or attack. Ibuki has a dedicated action that is much faster for reloading Kunai and Birdie's regular attacks do more damage and activate much faster.
