Mai firing a Kachousen in Street Fighter 6.

"A technique that sends forth a spinning fan. Hold down the button to change its properties. Useful for attacking opponents at range."
Street Fighter 6

Executed by performing a quarter-circle forward motion and pressing punch (or Special Attack for Modern Control in Street Fighter 6), Mai throws a folding fan that hits the opponent as a projectile. In Street Fighter 6, Mai's Kachousen is now a charging method, when holding a punch button adds another hit to her fan and bounces off the opponent. OD version of the attack has her throw a fan that instantly bounces off the opponent, dropping a second fan from above hidden under the first.

By pressing forward and punch after performing a charged OD Kachosen, Mai can perform the Midare Kachosen (乱れ花蝶扇 Midare Ka Chō Sen?, Dishevelled Flower Butterfly Fan). Mai throws two at the opponent, followed by two more fans at them simultaneously with one of the fans bouncing off of the opponent and dropping on them upon hitting them.

Tactics

The strength of the punch button pressed determines the move's startup and speed. The Light version has the slowest speed and the longest startup. The Medium version moves slightly faster and has a faster startup. The Heavy version has the fastest startup and travels the fastest. The OD version has the same startup and speed as the Heavy version. However, upon hitting the opponent, it bounces into the air before dropping on top of them for a second strike. While the uncharged projectile can be used to control space, the fan can be knocked out in the air by other strikes or projectiles.

If the punch button is held, then the properties of this move change. A charged Kachousen cannot be intercepted by strikes in midair. Additionally, if the fan makes contact with the opponent, it pops up in the air and descends on top of them, adding more to Mai's pressure. The Light version has the lowest bounce, while the Heavy version has the highest bounce.

Activating her Level 1 Super Art gives Mai five Flame stocks that amplifies her special moves and Super Arts. Kachousen is one of the moves affected by this power-up. At the cost of one Flame stock, Mai receives a slight damage boost to her projectile. It is hits the opponent twice and becomes more difficult to punish if blocked. This also applies to her charged Kachousen.
