Ibuki low profiling Ling Xiaoyu's standing jab in Street Fighter X Tekken.

A Low Profile is an avoidance technique in Street Fighter games.

Description.

Every action a player takes affects the character's Hurtbox in some way. This includes attacks. Usually when attacking with non invincible attacks the attacking character's hurtbox changes in some way, usually by increasing it's horizontal distance. Some attacks lower the user's hurtbox far below even what crouching would allow. This makes it so the user of the attack can literally avoid some attack Hitboxes by lowering their hurtbox from the offensive vertical range.

Tactics

Low profiling should not be confused with invincibility frames. Low profiles allow characters to deal with some attacks without having to take the risk of an unsafe reversal. They can also discourage certain attacks or tactics of enemies. If the low profile attack is capable with some auto sequence such as a Target Combo or is comboable it makes the tactic more beneficial as the low profiling character can have both an offensive and defensive option at the same time. Some low profiles can even be used as substitutes of Anti-Airs that can lead to even higher damage. Some jumping attacks like Chun-Li's neutral jump hard kick can be low profiled in SFXT regardless of how low in her jump she uses it.
