Description[]
Executed by pressing Medium Punch (or Medium Attack for Modern Control) three times in succession, Zangief performs a backhand chop. If the first attack connects, Zangief then performs two more chops. The third chop has Zangief using more torque and strength to knock the opponent away.
Tactics[]
The first attack has decent horizontal range, making it a good, safe poke to use at midrange. If Zangief hits the opponent with the first Standing Medium Punch as a Counter Hit or following a Drive Rush, he can link into Machine Gun Chops. By stopping after the second chop, he can potentially put his opponent in a mix-up and go for a command grab. The third hit of this target combo results in a knockdown with some good damage and corner carry, but poor okizeme without Drive Rush. Additionally, if Zangief's first Standing Medium Punch hits the opponent at max range, the pushback may result in him whiffing the next chop, leaving him vulnerable to a Punish Counter. Proper awareness is vital to convert stray pokes into more damage.
