The Mallet Smash (マレットスマッシュ Maretto Sumasshu?) is one of Elena's special attacks, introduced along with her in the Street Fighter III series.

Input
All appearances Arcade Stick HCB+Arcade Button Punch

Description[]

Executed by performing a half-circle backward motion and pressing punch, Elena cartwheels briefly into the air and brings her leading foot down on the opponent.

The EX Special version introduced in Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact swings faster and higher in air, has less recovery time and hits twice; in Ultra Street Fighter IV, the EX has no knockdown like the standard versions, but has the advantage of leaving the defenseless opponent "open" for a longer time.

Tactics[]

The cartwheel goes over low attacks and is an overhead, making it useful for getting at a crouching opponent. When EX, the longer "openness" caused on the opponent's stance allows much more combo possibilities for Elena.

In Ultra Street Fighter IV, EX Mallet Smash is incredibly powerful, being a very long ranged 15-frame overhead, making it virtually impossible to react to. Furthermore, unlike many overheads, it also leads to a a combo afterwards. EX Mallet Smash is particularly infamous for its synergy with Lynx Tail, being extremely fast moves that cover both high and low blocking opponents and are often safe on block. This gives her a 50/50 mix-up scenario that can loop into itself so long as Elena has meter for it.
