Description[]

MyoOken

Executed by pressing Medium Punch and Medium Kick simultaneously, Karin lunges forward with a devastating palm strike. By holding down the buttons, Karin charges the move for a split second, before lunging further toward her opponent and delivering a palm strike.

Tactics[]

The charged and the uncharged version of this move each lead to a knock down. It also grants V-Gauge to Karin, whether it hits or gets blocked. It is an excellent poke for Karin to use in the neutral game. She can use Meioken to keep her opponent at bay, while building up V-Gauge at a safe distance.

If Medium Punch and Medium Kick are pressed simultaneously without charging, then the move comes out faster with a 14-frame startup. However, it is -5 on block, leaving Karin vulnerable to a counterattack. By holding down Medium Punch and Medium Kick, Karin can charge the move for a split second, giving it better hit and block properties. While the charged version has a longer startup and recovery, it is only -1 on block. In addition, the charged version does more damage and has an longer hitbox, making this a decent mid-range attack.

In some cases, the Meioken can be used to end combos as a way to reset the neutral game or to build V-Gauge. This is a safer way for Karin to acquire her V-Trigger, rather than risk taking damage. While it may be risky, Meioken can also be used to nullify fireballs. If timed just right, the palm strike can absorb any single-hitting projectiles.

The Meikoen can also be cancelled into Karin's V-Trigger. From there, Karin can utilize a variety of follow-ups. She can link into Guren Ken to perform fancy combos, or create a reset situation.

Etymology[]

The term "myou'ou/mei'ou" is a Buddhist term for a wise king.
