The Mekong Delta Air-Raid (メコンデルタエアレイド Mekon Deruta Ea Reido?) is one of Rolento's special attacks, introduced in the Street Fighter Alpha series.

Input
All appearances Quarter-circle backward + Punch (followup with Punch)

Description

Executed by performing a quarter-circle backward motion and pressing punch, Rolento simply rolls backwards. How far backwards he rolls before returning to stance is determined by the strength of the punch button pressed, with heavier punches making Rolento roll further. If another punch button is pressed before Rolento finishes rolling, he will launch himself forward into the air and swing his club downward as the jump arcs back down. How far forward he jumps is determined by the strength of the second punch button pressed, with heavier punches meaning greater distances.

The EX Special version introduced in Street Fighter X Tekken has no startup time, rolls much faster and covers nearly double the distance of the heavy punch version; the followup staff swing also jumps forwards much faster and has knockdown.

Tactics

The attack can be used as a method of escape (by rolling without followup) or as a way to evade a single attack and quickly punish it (if followed-up). It is usable on standing foes but is more useful against airborne ones. It is in keeping with Rolento's character, whose playstyle is centered on attacks where he initially moves quickly away from the opponent only to suddenly spring forward in attack.

Etymology

The attack, like many attacks in Rolento's repertoire, is named for the Mekong River Delta in Vietnam, suggesting that Rolento may be a veteran of that war.
