Mai performing Musasabi no Mai in Street Fighter 6.

"While airborne, diagonally descend with a powerful tackle. Useful for making surprise attacks or as a way to counterattack someone after dodging a projectile."
Street Fighter 6

Executed by performing a quarter-circle back and pressing punch while airborne, Mai dives down at her opponent, striking them.

Tactics

Its ability to be briefly airborne before striking downwards can be used to dodge projectiles or exploit mistimed attacks from the enemy. It can be used in midair to end airborne combos. She can cancel this move from Jumping Medium Punch or from her target combo. Similar to Cammy's Cannon Strike, it can be difficult for the opponent to punish Mai is she aims this attack at their feet.

Activating her Level 1 Super Art gives Mai five Flame stocks that amplifies her special moves and Super Arts. Musasabi no Mai is one of the moves affected by this power-up. At the cost of one Flame stock, Mai receives a slight damage boost to this attack.

Trivia

  • In Fatal Fury 2, her stage does not have any walls she can attack from, due to the arena being a giant floating moat. She instead primes her attack from the vertical pillar of the moat before striking downwards.
  • Certain games in the KOF series has a feint version of this attack, where she'll dash backwards, jump to the nearest corner, but simply descend to the ground and not attack.
