Power Wave is one of Terry Bogard's special attacks, debuting in Fatal Fury and SNK VS Capcom: The Match of the Millennium.

Description

"Smash the ground with your fist and let loose a wave of energy across the ground. Useful for checking an opponent from a distance, and as a stopgap in combos."

Executed by performing a quarter-circle forward and pressing Light or Medium Punch, Terry draws chi from the earth before slamming his fist down and creating a wave of energy that travels along the ground. The strength of the button determines its variants, with the Light version traveling slow and moving across the screen while the Medium version travels quickly but dissipates at midscreen. When done with a Heavy Punch, Terry performs Round Wave, a stationary burst of energy in front of him. The OD version travels as a series of spikes across the ground instead, a reference to the move's original depiction in his debut game, Fatal Fury: King of Fighters.

Tactics

Each version of Power Wave has unique properties and applications. Light Power Wave travels low to the ground, bypassing opposing higher projectiles entirely, making it a great disruption tool for projectile-happy opponents. Medium Power Wave has a much larger hitbox that can clash with other projectiles. However, its shorter range makes it less useful as an approaching option and more useful as a mid-range poke. This is similar to the Power Wave that he uses from KOF 96 to KOF 98 (and UM).

Trivia

• Whenever an OD Power Wave causes Terry to enter Burnout, he shouts out the attack's name with a vocal filter similar to the one used in Fatal Fury: King of Fighters. This trait is even shared with the Avatar under the same circumstances.
