Yun performing his Raigeki Shu in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

The Raigeki Shu (雷撃蹴 Raigeki Shuu?, "Thunder Strike Kick") is one of Yun and Yang's unique attacks, introduced in Street Fighter III.

Input
All appearances Airborne only Down-forward + Kick

Description

Executed by moving down and forward and pressing any kick button while in midair, Yun and Yang perform a Dive Kick while falling at an angle determined by the kick button used. In Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Yun and Yang will also angle their bodies based on the given angle. Chun-Li via animation recycling gains access to this attack in OMEGA Mode.

Tactics

The move is a solid tool for air-to-ground approaches and cross-ups, and can be used to bait (and possibly trade hits with) anti-airs from the opponent; the move must be used with precision, proper button choice, and good timing, or else the player risks giving the opponent an easy punish.

The Street Fighter IV series alters the hitboxes for each version of the move; it also has faster startup and a lower height restriction (moreso in Yun's case than Yang's), making the stronger versions much more favorable for long-range poking. Later editions of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition would increase the hurtboxes and height restrictions for the move for both twins.

Trivia

  • While they are similar, this attack has no relation to Falcon Kick.
  • All versions of this attack are treated as a command normal and does not inflict chip damage if blocked. Similar midair dive-based attacks are treated as a special attack and inflicts guard damage.
  • Only Yang's version can combo from a midair MK into this attack. Yun and Chun-Li has no such linkup from basic aerial attacks. This ability also gives Yang more technical advantage over his twin brother in aerial attacks.
  • With Chun-Li gaining access to this attack, it is similar in functionality, yet different from Hienshu, a move she gains in the EX series.
