Rashid is a character appearing in the upcoming Street Fighter V. He was first officially unveiled on September 11, 2015. He is the second of the four new fighters confirmed for Street Fighter V. Rashid is also the first Arabian fighter within the main games of the series and the first male Arabic fighter; counting the Street Fighter EX series, he would be the second Arabic fighter, following Pullum Purna.

Biography

Appearance

Rashid has black hair, light brown eyes and well groomed facial hair. He also has a yellow eyepiece on his left eye which flashes briefly when he activates his V-Trigger. His head is adorned with white short shemagh and a black agal. His outfit was a long white sleeveless trench coat with black straps at the centre of his coat and was tucked into a black sash. Underneath is a black sleeveless shirt, white military pants and black combat open-toed boots. He also wears a black and dark gray battle wristbands in both of his hands.

Concept

The creation of Rashid was a close collaboration between Capcom Japan, Sony, and Pluto Games.


Story

Street Fighter V

Rashid is the eldest son of an old Middle Eastern family who's travelling the world in search of a missing friend who has been kidnapped by Shadaloo.

Fighting Style and Gameplay

Rashid appears to have a military inspired fighting style. He fights using acrobatic kicks which he mixes with his wind projectiles to create small tornadoes similar to Cody's Criminal Upper when utilising some of his special attacks. His V-Trigger summons a giant tornado which can be used as a barrier for mixups, similar to Urien's Aegis Reflector traps. His Critical Art enables him to be engulfed in a giant tornado that can kick his opponent multiple times while having his arm crossed before dealing the final devastating kick to his opponent.

Trivia

• Rashid is similar and has been compared to Shaheen from the Tekken series, as they are both Arabic fighters who use acrobatic and jumping kicks as their special attacks from their military fighting style. Rashid however speaks English in an Arabic accent while Shaheen speaks Arabic.

• His way of manipulating wind is also similar to Jin from the manga and anime series, Yu Yu Hakusho and Fuko Kirisawa from another manga and anime series, Flame of Recca. Some of his special attacks resembles Jin's Tornado Fist and Wind Barrier and the other resembles Fuko's Kamaitachi.

• Although his concept and design bears many direct references, he also mirrors SNK Real Bout Fatal Fury: Dominated Mind originated character Alfred Airhawk.

• His Critical Art has similarities to Akuma's Demon Armageddon Ultra Combo from the Street Fighter IV series, Messatsu Gou Rasen Super Art from Street Fighter III and Ryu's Shinku Tatsumaki Sempukyaku in its crossover appearances.

• His intro quote ("I am Rashid of the turbulent wind. Remember the name well.") could be a reference to Soul Calibur character Heishiro Mitsurugi's win quote ("I am Heishiro Mitsurugi. Do not forget this name.") in Soul Calibur V.
• His English voice actor, Dan Woren, is best known for voicing Hajime Saito in the manga and anime series, Rurouni Kenshin.
