Description[]
- "An overhead attack that cannot be blocked while crouching."
- —Street Fighter 6
Executed by pressing forward and Medium Punch (or pressing forward and Medium Attack for Modern Control), Luke rears a fist back and smashes his opponent overhead with a stiff blow with the bottom of his fist.
Tactics[]
As an overhead attack, the main purpose is to break through the defenses of an opponent who insists on crouch guarding (as the attack must be blocked from a standing position). The move also has a 22-frame startup. If his opponent is low on health, he can use Rawhide to catch them off-guard and potentially secure the round. However, the startup gives the opponent a little time to counter and attack Luke before he throws out the attack.
Like most of Luke's unique attacks, this attack has decent range and inflicts good damage. Despite being -7 on block, it can be difficult to punish if properly spaced. If Luke scores a Counter Hit with his overhead at point blank range, he can link with his 3-frame Crouching Light Punch for a small combo. Additionally, even though this is only situational, hitting a mid-air opponent with Rawhide slams the them back on the ground. While Rawhide isn't typically an anti-air attack, Luke can get decent okizeme using his overhead to get the opponent's out of the air.
In Street Fighter 6, Rawhide is safe at -3 and can be used out of a Drive Rush to be +6 on hit, enabling a link into Crouching Medium Punch to give Luke a combo route from an overhead. This move is more of a threat when pressuring the opponent with strong normals and surprising them with Drive Rush. This puts them in a position to guess what Luke's next attack may be: throw, low attacks, or overhead. Luke can keep his opponent guessing and score easy and decent damage since he can get more from Rawhide.
