Description[]

"Fire a shockwave of pressure from your fist. Useful for checking an opponent from a distance, and as a stopgap in combos."
Street Fighter 6

Executed by performing a quarter-circle forward motion and pressing punch, Luke punches the air, creating an arc of orange energy from where he stands, pushing the opponent back. The distance the arc travels depends on the strength of the punch used - light for the shortest, heavy for the longest. The EX variant travels full screen and causes a knockdown.

In Street Fighter 6, it gains a new follow-up called Fatal Shot (フェイタルショット Feitaru Shotto?), performed by pressing two punch buttons again after the initial OD Sand Blast, where Luke throws out another projectile in quick succession.

Tactics[]

Street Fighter V[]

In contrast to most other projectiles, Sand Blaster travels extremely fast in a set distance. While Luke may excel at close range, Sand Blaster gives him a solid option from far away. Most anti-projectile options cannot be used on reaction against Sand Blaster, forcing opponents to risk a hard read.

However, unlike most projectiles, Luke is considerably disadvantageous on block after firing it. The light Sand Blaster is -10, while the heavy one is -5, and given the projectile is active for a considerably shorter amount of time, it is also heavily punishable on whiff without any hitboxes to potentially prevent the opponent's advance. Determining which version to use at what range is crucial to maintain pressure. Each version can be cancelled into Luke's Critical Art.

If Luke has his first V-Trigger activated, then he can cancel Sand Blaster into Rock Smasher, which is an amplified version of Sand Blaster where Luke rapidly fires three projectiles. When cancelling on an EX version of Sand Blaster, Luke can perform Thermobaric Thrash, a powered-up version of Rock Smasher where Luke rapidly shoots five projectiles at the opponent with a dramatic slow-motion effect during the startup frames.

Street Fighter 6[]

"Fire an additional shockwave after an OD Sand Blast. Useful for securing some damage after trading projectiles."
Street Fighter 6

The move returns in Street Fighter 6 and functions identically to how it did in SFV, only it's somewhat slower than before.

New to SF6, however, is the addition of Fatal Shot, which allows Luke to send out an additional projectile in exchange for one stock of the Drive Gauge, effectively costing half of the entire gauge if used in quick succession. With the introduction of OD projectiles destroying normal fireballs, Luke can quickly intercept opponents at a long range and tack on extra damage if successful.
