ShoulderThrow

Ryu hoisting Cammy over using Shoulder Throw in Street Fighter V.

Executed by pressing Light Punch and Light Kick near an opponent, Ryu grabs his opponent, and positions them so that they are behind him. Still holding onto their arm, Ryu pulls the opponent over his shoulder, causing them to land on their back.

In Street Fighter V, the inputs for this forward throw are the same for Kage. While the name of the throw is also the same, the animation itself is slightly different. Kage grabs his opponent by the collar with both hands and yanks them past his body so that they are positioned behind him. As he steps forward with his back foot, Kage lifts his opponent up above his head. He lets go of his opponent's collar with on hand, holding them above the ground momentarily. Finally, Kage violently throws his opponent of his shoulder, causing them to land back-first on the ground.

In Street Fighter 6, Ryu's forward throw returns with a slight variant in animation. After taking control of his opponent by the wrist, Ryu then grabs his opponent by the collar and steps across them. As he pivots on his front foot and with a firm grip on their collar and arm, he turns his body and bends his knees to throw his opponent over his shoulder, slamming them hard on their back. For Modern Control, the move can be perform by inputting Light Attack and Medium Attack near an opponent.

Ryu utilizing Shoulder Throw against Ling Xiaoyu in Street Fighter X Tekken.

Ryu's forward throw leaves his opponent fairly close to him. After the throw, he can walk forward and throw out one of his normal attacks for meaty setups. Compared to other characters, his throwing game and mix-up potential is very limited, Ryu has to find ways to open up his opponents whenever he can; including utilizing meaty normals to fish for Counter Hits.

For Kage, this attack shares similar properties to Ryu's forward throw. However, Kage's forward throw inflicts more stun. The Shoulder Throw leaves Kage close to his opponent, giving him okizeme. After hitting his opponent with Medium Ryusokyaku, he is positioned close enough to not only maintain offensive pressure with meaty normals, but he can also mix in some throws to break through his opponent's defenses and keep them guessing.

SF6ShoulderThrow

Shoulder Throw in Street Fighter 6 is critical to Ryu's arsenal. He can immediately perform a Drive Rush to reapply pressure as his opponent is recovering. Despite inflicting minimal damage, Ryu can utilize throws to break the opponent's defenses; especially during okizeme. By mixing up strong normals with his throws, Ryu can keep his opponent guessing and score free damage while continuously pushing them closer to the corner. Once he has his opponent against the wall, Shoulder Throw becomes more of a threat. Because the throw leaves Ryu close to his opponent, he can put them in a consistent throw loop without having to move. Precise timing is required, but Ryu can force his opponent to take lots of throws with his other options potentially resulting in more damage.
