Description[]

"Knocks down an opponent with overwhelming strength before unleashing a single, devastating blow. It can be canceled into from a special move, making it particularly useful in combos."
Street Fighter 6
SipOfCalamitySA

Akuma knocking out Cammy with a devastating punch during Sip of Calamity.

Executed by performing two quarter-circle forward motions and pressing kick (or pressing down plus both the Heavy & Special Attack simultaneously for Modern Control), Akuma delivers a palm strike to the opponent's head. If the attack hits, the opponent is briefly reared back. Akuma then grabs them by the head, hoists them off their feet, and violently slams them back first onto the ground. Next, he stomps on the opponent's midsection and holds them in place with his foot. After momentarily towering over his opponent, Akuma pulls his an arm back, infusing his fist with Satsui no Hado ki. Finally, Akuma delivers a devastating punch to the exposed head of the opponent. As the opponent loses consciousness with their arms falling limp to the ground, Akuma stands and walks away before dropping back in his stance.

For the Critical Art version, after immobilizing his opponent and pulling his infused fist back, the opponent attempts to block and catch Akuma's punch, using all their strength to push him back. However, Akuma powers through the opponent's defense and opens up his hand to accumulate massive amounts of Satsui no Hado ki within his palm. The opponent can only struggle before Akuma blasts them at point-blank range with the dark energy, creating a small geyser.

Tactics[]

Akuma unleashing a vicious, dark energy blast.

Sip of Calamity can be cancelled from Akuma's normals, unique attacks, or special moves such as his Goshoryuken or Adamant Flame. When cancelled from his special moves, Sip of Calamity has a 2-frame startup, making it easier to his Super Art to connect. When Akuma is down to 25% or less of his health, this move gain an additional boost of damage. It also has a lengthy cinematic animation, allowing Akuma to recover Drive Meter while draining at least two bars from his opponent. He is fully invincible during the startup frames of this move, making it a good option to whiff punish moves at short range. While it can be used as a reversal, it is only one frame faster than Empyrean's End and two frames slower than an OD Gou Shoryuken, making it somewhat expensive to use for that purpose.

Etymology[]

Like Misogi, Sip of Calamity is evocative of Shinto rites involving sake to be offered to the gods, which is also believed to behold sacred and mystical power. Within Shinto, Magatsuhi no Kami is a god known to be an evil deity of disaster and misfortune. As such, the attack is performed akin as a "rite" that would benefit such a god.
