The Sonic Scythe (ソニックサイズ Sonikku Saizu?) is one of Charlie Nash's special attacks, introduced in Street Fighter V.

Street Fighter V Arcade Stick QCB+Arcade Button Kick

Description Edit

Executed by performing a quarter-circle backward motion and pressing kick, Nash sweeps his leg across the opponent's body in arching kick with energy trailing his leg. The properties of the moves depend on the strength of the button used to execute it:

Version Effect
Arcade-Button-LKick Has Charlie sweep his leg across the opponent's body, sweeping the knees.
Arcade-Button-MKick Has Charlie sweep his leg across the opponent's body, slashing the chest.
Arcade-Button-HKick Features Charlie kicking upwards into the air with one leg arcing outward from front to back.
Arcade Button 2xKick Features two Heavy Sonic Scythes strung together.

This is Charlie's new version of the Flash Kick.

Despite the visual similarities to Flash Kick, Sonic Scythe is a sub-par anti-air at best due to a total lack of invincibility on the Heavy version. Instead, the move is primarily used as a more damaging way to end combos, or as a raw punish. EX Sonic Scythe has invincibility beginning when Charlie becomes airborne, thus making it somewhat viable as an anti-air, although it begins to lose hits once the invincible period begins. Since it doesn't have any invincible frames, the Sonic Scythe is not subject to Crush Counter penalties if blocked; unlike other anti-air moves.

Nash's Sonic Scythe is a great all around combo ender that results in good damage and a knockdown. The Light version has a decent startup, making it one of Nash's fastest special attacks. If Nash manages to stun his opponent, he can perform 2-3 Light Sonic Scythes to rebuild his Critical Gauge as they are recovering.

The Medium version is also great combo ender when the opponent is at a distance. While it is unsafe on block, using it at max distance makes it safe as it is out of range for any punish. It is an effective tool to use in the neutral game. The Medium version can also be cancelled into Nash's Critical Art for even more damage.

The Heavy version can work as an anti-air and a combo extender when used in conjunction with V-Trigger. It has the slowest startup, compared to the other versions. However, it hits twice and knocks the opponent back fullscreen. It can be used with Nash's V-Trigger to extend a combo for more damage, due to the juggling properties the Heavy version provides. In addition, similar to the Medium version, it can be cancelled into his Critical Art.

The EX Version of Sonic Scythe is the fastest version in terms of startup making it a reliable anti-air option. It also inflicts the most damage out of the other versions. While the recovery for this move is unsafe on block, it is a great tool to shut down any of the opponent's jump attempts.

  • The heavy Sonic Scythe resembles the Genocide Cutter, an attack used by the villain Rugal Bernstein, a character from SNK Playmore's The King of Fighters series.
    • Additionally, it's possible that the Heavy version was the inspiration for Explosive Arc, an attack used by the character ARIA from Killer Instinct.
