Description[]

Spinebuster

Zangief slamming Cammy to the ground using Spinebuster.

Executed by pressing down-forward, plus Light Punch and Light Kick, (or the Light Attack and Medium Attack for Modern Control) near an opponent. After grabbing the opponent by the wrist, Zangief drapes his opponent's arm over his shoulder. As he squats down, he wraps one arm around his opponent's waist while placing the opposite hand underneath their thigh. Zangief stands and lifts high off of the ground. Next, Zangief swings his front leg backwards and drops to his knees, viciously slamming his opponent back-first onto the ground.

Tactics[]

While Zangief has a wide range of throws, Spinebuster is a particularly powerful option due to its incredible okizeme, allowing Zangief to immediately pressure his opponent with either strikes or his many other throws. Mixing up his normal throws with his signature Screw Piledriver is crucial to his game plan. At midscreen, Zangief can use a Drive Rush to quickly approach the opponent and go for another throw or a command grab, while in the corner, he is in range to do so for free. Though it is the weakest of all of his throws in terms of damage, its utility makes up for these shortcomings.

Trivia[]

  • This throw is based on a popular professional wrestling move called the Spinebuster, which is used by many professional wrestlers such as Arn Anderson, Dave Batista, and Bianca Belair.
