Street Fighter: The Novel Where Strength Lies is a 256-page hardcover book by UDON published in 2016. It is an adaptation of Ultra Street Fighter IV (2014), and it’s written by Takashi Yanodrawn and drawn by Yusuke Murata.[1]

Story[]
Chapter 1[]
The first chapter focuses on Ryu Vs. Akuma. At first, Akuma has the upper hand against Ryu and uses Shun Goku Satsu. The attack devastates Ryu who's now on the verge of death until he awakens his own Satsui no Hado and then overwhelms Akuma. He tells Ryu to kill him so he can take up the mantle of the true Satsui no Hado user for good. Despite Ryu being under the influence of the Satsui no Hado, the lessons he learned from Gouken, that involves understanding and respecting opponents through battle, holds him back from killing Akuma. Akuma mocks Ryu for being weak then transforms into Oni and then uses Meido Gohado on Ryu which corrupts Ryu's ki, so much that he turns into Evil Ryu who then goes on a rampage beating fighters to near death across the world.
Chapter 2[]
Chun-Li is undergoing an investigation in Africa after heating rumors of an American soldier who is single-handedly taking out Shadaloo bases in the region. She meets up with Elena who had supposedly met with the mysterious figure and Elena wants to fight her in turn for the information. Chun-Li wins the fight, however Elena was unable to identify the man who she fought during the night. Elena encourages Chun-Li to keep up her investigation on Shadaloo and offers to help her find the mysterious man she's looking for.
Chapter 3[]
E. Honda and Guile have a casual street fight against each other in an area which seems to be the Air Force Base. At first Guile was dominant in the fight, but E. Honda pulls off a Sumo-style suplex which K.Os Guile which surprised the people watching the fight. The two combatants now respected each other more than they did before the fight and go their separate ways.
Chapter 4[]
Hearing rumors about his friend beating opponents all around the world within an inch of their lives, Ken sets out to confirm these rumors. Eventually he confronts Evil Ryu, at first Evil Ryu had no recollection on who Ken was, but once he remembers he begins to belittle him. Evil Ryu crushes Ken both physically and mentally, but Ken keeps fighting to help his friend and lands a couple of hits, one being a Shoryuken. Unfortunately none of the hits had any effect and Evil Ryu beats Ken to near death, Evil Ryu delivers the finishing blow and Ken accepts his death as it’s at the hands of his best friend. Evil Ryu leaves Ken to die from blood loss, but a mysterious person takes Ken to hospital.
Chapter 5[]
Dhalsim and Hakan get into a street fight. Throughout the fight, Hakan was worried about Dhalsim’s fire since he’s covered in oil. He’d later witness Dhalsim extend his limbs and teleport which made the fight even more difficult for Hakan. Despite this, Hakan managed to shock the crowd by getting over one of Dhalsim’s fire attacks and defeats him.
Chapter 6[]
One morning, Dudley was enjoying some tea until Balrog barges into his residence and challenges him. During the match, Balrog uses a variety of dirty tricks to take down Dudley but Dudley maintains calm and beats Balrog. Despite being boxers that are polar opposites in terms of personality, they both respect each other and eventually set up a rematch in another location.
Chapter 7[]
Similar to Ken, Sagat hears rumors of Ryu beating people to near death. He believes M. Bison is behind this and confronts him. However M. Bison admits that he has nothing to do with Evil Ryu’s rampage and tells Sagat that it was Akuma meddling which led to Ryu giving into the Satsui no Hado. The two then fight with M. Bison being in control throughout the fight but Sagat lands heavy hits on M. Bison which then leads into a Tiger Knee and Tiger Uppercut. Receiving both attacks back to back, forced M. Bison to retreat and leaves his henchmen to deal with Sagat.
Chapter 8[]
After surviving Akuma’s Shun Goku Satsu, Gouken heard about Ryu attacking other fighters and waits at the Old Temple. Since this was where Gouken trained Ryu and Ken he knew Ryu would return to this spot one day, even if his mind is clouded by the Satsui no Hado. Evil Ryu shows up and was at first stunned to see his master alive, but the Satsui no Hado prevented any more emotion to surface as that’s secondary to defeating Gouken.
During the fight Evil Ryu lands a Shun Goku Satsu, but Gouken survives and continuous to fight with the injuries. The damage limited Gouken’s attack options, so he resorted to Shin Shoryuken instead which K.O’s Evil Ryu. Even though Evil Ryu was down, the Satsui no Hado forced the body to continue to fight, and was about to land the finishing blow on Gouken until Ryu overcomes the Satsui no Hado and reverts back to his normal self. The scene ends with a teary-eyed reunion with his master.
