The Tornado (トルネード Torunēdo?) is one of Sean's special attacks, introduced in the Street Fighter III series.

Input
All appearances Quarter-circle backward + Kick

Description[]

Sean performs a spinning kick similar to the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. However, Sean uses both legs to attack, making it more akin to the Dankukyaku. Unlike Dan's heavy Dankukyaku which hits three times, Sean's heavy Tornado hits four times.

Tactics[]

In Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact, Tornado's Heavy Kick version has the fastest startup and combos from all of Sean's Medium attacks, as well as Sean's incredibly damaging Close Heavy Kick. The Light version doesn't combo from Medium attacks and the Medium version doesn't combo from Heavy attacks, making Heavy Tornado the preferred version for many of Sean's combos. Both the Heavy and EX versions of Tornado link into Shoryu Cannon and Hyper Tornado, while EX links into Hado Burst.

In Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Tornado is considerably nerfed, with stronger variants having more startup instead of the reverse, making it much harder to combo into Heavy Tornado. The meterless versions of Tornado are completely unsafe on hit and block, while also recovering point blank to the opponent. Because Sean also recovers while crouching, he takes extra damage and stun. EX Tornado is much safer, but still possibly punishable by certain normals and supers. Furthermore, Tornado forces stand, making it function effectively identical on both standing and crouching opponents, nullifying the increased damage and hitstun Sean would otherwise get from hitting a crouching opponent. Finally, Tornado no longer being plus on hit makes it impossible to link any Super Arts afterwards, further cutting Sean's damage. This makes Tornado a rather poor option in many contexts.
