The Tourouzan (螳螂斬? "Praying Mantis Slash") is one of Yang's special attacks, introduced in the Street Fighter III series.

Input
All appearances Quarter-circle forward + Punch (can be performed up to 3 times)

Description[]

Tourouzan

Tourouzan in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

Executed by performing a quarter-circle forward motion and pressing punch, Yang steps forward and performs an inward open-palm slash with alternating hands (following hand, then opposite, then the leading hand via an outward one) when input 3 successive times in a row. Though for 2nd Impact, the final input instead ends with Yang's far standing medium punch instead, which is a leading-armed elbow bash (the Gaimon Chouchuu).

The distance, speed and startup time are determined by the punch button pressed at the initial input: light punch version has shorter startup time; heavy punch version travels the furthest and fastest, and medium punch balances the two. The recovery time depends on the number of strikes; there is almost no recovery time after the first slash, but the recovery time increases for each subsequent one performed.

The EX Special version slashes five times; the timing for this does not vary, and the only control Yang has over the series of strikes after the initial input is the distance.

Tactics[]

This attack is central to Yang's style, as the timing between strikes can be varied in for use as a hit confirm, thwarting an opponent's attempt to counter (e.g. parrying), or as a solid approaching tool via using it as a poke of sorts. Attacking with more than one successive input in the chain however can create an opening for a foe to punish, due to the longer recovery.

Trivia[]

  • In Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Yang's cinematic winning animation has him perform this attack.
