More emulators means more...uh...fun. I was recently able to play a little bit of "Street Fighter II" for the original Game Boy, and I must say, it's one of the most interesting versions of "Street Fighter II" to exist. To start off, it functions sort of like "Super Street Fighter II", as the music sounds as if it were a CPS-2 game, the characters' portraits look just like they do in those games, and the boss characters actually have their own endings as well, unlike in the CPS-1 games. Although, for "storage" reasons, a few characters have been removed, and we are limited to the following fighters: Ryu, Blanka, Guile, Ken, Chun-Li, Zangief, Bison, Sagat, and Balrog. In the 'Options' menu, there are two sound test sections: 'Music' and 'Effect'. Press left and right on the control pad to switch between selections of music or sound effects and press 'A' to play or repeat and 'B' to stop. Press 'Start' to go back to the main menu. There are 29 different soundtracks, in this order as displayed in the 'Music' section:
- 00 - Ryu's Stage
- 01 - Chun-Li's Stage
- 02 - Balrog's Stage
- 03 - Sagat's Stage
- 04 - Blanka's Stage
- 05 - Zangief's Stage
- 06 - Ken's Stage
- 07 - Guile's Stage
- 08 - M. Bison's Stage
- 09 - Player Select
- 10 - VS.
- 11 - Continue?
- 12 - Game Over
- 13 - Match-End
- 14 - Here Comes a New Challenger!
- 15 - Ranking Display
- 16 - Congratulations!
- 17 - Blanka's Ending
- 18 - M. Bison's Ending
- 19 - Zangief's Ending
- 20 - Guile's Ending
- 21 - Sagat's Ending
- 22 - Ken's Ending
- 23 - Chun-Li's Ending (Part 1)
- 24 - Ryu's Ending
- 25 - Balrog's Ending
- 26 - Intro
- 27 - Capcom Logo
- 28 - Chun-Li's Ending (Part 2)
See? Kind of like the CPS-2 games. Now, I know there's normally two soundtracks and two parts for Ken's ending, but in this version, the only part we see is when he and Eliza are happily married again, and the music that plays is the soundtrack that normally plays when Eliza suddenly shows up after Ken wins his final battle against Bison. Also, the music for the second part of Chun-Li's ending doesn't play, just the one music for the first part, and the only part of her ending that we see in this version of "Street Fighter II" is the part where she appears to be wearing something different than her usual attire when she says that she can finally get back to her life as a single young girl. Not really much I can say about the music other than how awesome it kinda sounds for a really old gaming system (a handheld, if you will).
