The Yagyou Dama (夜行魂? "Night Traveling Soul") is one of Oro's Super Art attacks in the Street Fighter III series. It is the more powerful version of his Nichirin Shou. The Yagyou Dama's first appearance was actually featured in the Street Fighter III manga Ryu Final (during the first meeting between Oro and Ryu) before appearing in the games.

The Yagyou Dama is the basic version. Executed by performing two quarter-circle forward motions and pressing punch, the attack sees Oro fire a larger orb which travels in a sine-wave trajectory - zigzagging up and down. The orb travels extremely slowly and dissipates after, about five seconds, or it hits the opponent four times (whichever is first).

A demonstration of Yagyou-Odama

The Yagyou-Odama (夜行大魂? "Night Traveling Great Soul"), also known as EX Yagyou Dama, is the extra powerful version. Executed by performing two quarter-circle forward motions and pressing two punch buttons with a maxed out Super Gauge, Oro leaps up into the air and summons a massive orb of ki, throwing it downwards, hitting up to about twelve times.[1]This version covers more vertical space as opposed to the horizontal space covered by the basic Yagyou Dama, and is best used in the corner where the opponent cannot avoid it by moving away. If used as a K.O finisher during the last round Oro will go into a special win pose, using both hands to re-summon the large ki orb from the ground which engulfs him and drifts away.

Tactics[]

Yagyou Dama's Super Art Gauge grants Oro three shorter stocks, letting him use meter freely for his EX moves, or even filling the screen with three Yagyou Dama. Activating Yagyou Dama will require the player to have distance away from the opponent; the attack will require Oro to concentrate to unleash a sphere, and he is very vulnerable during the start up animation. However, Oro can super cancel into Yagyou Dama in a reset, most infamously from his Close Medium Punch. Like Dhalsim's Yoga Catastrophe, the orb's slowness is an advantage: it allows Oro to attempt to get on the far side of the opponent and force them to block in two directions at once. The orb is also capable of juggling an opponent, and proper execution can allow multiple orbs for a devastating trap juggle. However, Oro's most devastating tool is his unblockable loop with Yagyou Dama. By super cancelling his Close Medium Punch, Oro can have the orb only hitting once into a hard knockdown, giving Oro enough time to hop over his opponent and attack them on the same frame as the orb's hits, leading to completely unblockable setup that can only be parried out of. Furthermore, a failed parry resets an opponent's juggle potential, letting Oro combo again. On top of all this, the remaining hits of Yagyou Dama let Oro perform another Close Medium Punch, repeating the unblockable in a loop that builds him enough meter to keep doing it.

Worth noting is that the loop relies heavily on his Close Medium Punch to Jinchuu Watari "chicken combo", a pivotal part of Oro's gameplan. However, this loop does not work properly on Yun, Yang, and Hugo, making it impossible to properly loop the full unblockable. As a result, Oro players often exclusively use Tengu Stone in those matchups, though both Super Arts are otherwise interchangeable due to their strengths and synergy with the chicken combo.

Yagyou Oodama's uses are considerably more niche, and is often only seen as a stylish finisher to a match due to the potency of the unblockable loop and how Oro needs to build more meter to use it.
