Executed by performing a half-circle backwards motion and pressing punch, Dhalsim inhales deeply and breathes a large mass of flame that burns the opponent. In early Street Fighter II the original input was a half-circle forward motion which overlapped with the usual projectile input for Yoga Fire, which later resulted in the input change.
The flame duration is determined by the punch button pressed. The Light version comes out the fastest, but does the least amount of damage. The Heavy version inflicts the most damage, but has the longest startup time.
The EX Special version introduced in the Street Fighter IV series has no startup time and a longer horizontal range akin to the version from the Marvel crossovers; it hits twice and deals nearly twice the damage. In Street Fighter V, the EX version has Dhalsim breathe the flames in an upward motion, hitting the opponent multiple times and inflicting more damage..
This move is ideal for counters and combo finishers as well as keeping opponents away. Unlike Yoga Fire, this move leads to a knockdown, allowing Dhalsim to draw in close or to reset the neutral game. Also, Dhalsim can confuse the opponent by teleporting in front or behind them.
The Light and Medium version are used to end combos. The Light version comes out the quickest, but the Medium version does more damage. The Heavy version has a long startup, making it difficult to cancel into from Dhalsim's normals. However, it is +3 on block, making it a great meaty move to use on your opponent's wakeup to apply pressure and force them to block. If it hits, it puts your opponent in a brief airborne juggle state, meaning Dhalsim can do a reset by knocking them out of the sky with a move like Divine Kick. This gives Dhalsim a nice mix-up opportunity, making HP Yoga Flame a nice tool to mix along with Dhalsim's other options.
The EX Yoga Flame has the quickest startup and most importantly can be cancelled from Dhalsim's St.LP. This gives Dhalsim a fast combo that can inflict a decent amount of damage. Plus, the EX version puts the opponent in a juggle state. If timed correctly, Dhalsim can hit them out of the air and create mix-up opportunities with his teleport.
